The idea for this large-scale campaign—which involved more than a dozen of Russia’s coal-mining regions—was inspired by the true story of an athletic feat performed by miners in 1935–1936: a cross-country ski trek from the Kuzbass to the Donbass. Over the course of 61 days, five miners from Prokopyevsk covered 4,500 kilometers to deliver a report to Stakhanov announcing the early fulfillment of the annual production quota.
In Kemerovo’s Olympic Glory Park, employees of JSC KTK—alongside representatives from other coal mining enterprises, civic organizations, and government agencies—ran a two-kilometer course to uphold the traditions of the miners' brotherhood.
Participants noted that the atmosphere of this inaugural miners' race was filled with high spirits, good will, and competitive excitement.
